For Immediate Release:

Calgary, AB, Jul 9, 2010: Rodeos, agricultural society shows and exhibitions are held throughout our nation each year in recognition of the efforts and dedication of agricultural industry producers. The displays, contests and performances are a depiction and celebration of our history and current times.

Horse Welfare Alliance of Canada (HWAC) partners and constituents are confident that the humane handling and welfare of all animals involved in these displays, contests and performances is of the highest priority to the operators and the participants of these many events in our great country.

The Calgary Exhibition and Stampede Board is an excellent example of animal welfare due diligence. With the guidance of a new Animal Care Advisory Panel, the Stampede is currently reviewing all its existing internal practices and benchmarking against industry best practices.

HWAC is in full support of all of the regulations that are in place and enforced by governments and the respective societies in Canada for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).

The Horse Welfare Alliance of Canada is an alliance of provincial equine organizations and farm animal care groups whose purpose is the dissemination of correct information related to the Canadian horse industry to horse owners and the general public.

Visit www.horsewelfare.ca for more details on HWAC or call Bill desBarres at 403 526-1070.
