HWAC is dedicated to protecting and promoting the welfare of horses while supporting the integrity of Canada’s equine industry.

- Develop and deliver educational programs advancing equine welfare
- Inform stakeholders about issues affecting horse health and well-being
- Raise public awareness of horse welfare and responsible industry practices
About HWAC
HWAC unites individuals, organizations, and industry partners committed to responsible horse care across Canada. We:
- Collaborate with equine organizations and government on welfare policies
- Provide science-based education on horse health, transportation, housing, and biosecurity
- Monitor national issues impacting horses and act to protect their welfare
- Lead projects to strengthen welfare standards and promote best practices

Looking Ahead
HWAC is committed to humane care, education, and a sustainable, responsible equine industry. We continue to identify emerging issues, strengthen partnerships, and ensure horse welfare remains a national priority.
The Horse Welfare Alliance of Canada (est. 2008) is a national coalition of equine professionals, veterinarians, breeders, and owners committed to advancing horse welfare through industry collaboration and offering science based education.
HWAC was formed as a response to concerns related to the humane care and handling of horses. These concerns were not being addressed by other equine industry organizations.
HWAC was registered under Corporations Canada July 2011 as a not for profit corporation.
