HWAC and the Horse Rescue Fund
The Horse Welfare Alliance of Canada (HWAC) is collaborating with the Horse Rescue Fund to provide emergency support for equine owners, reputable rescues, and sanctuaries across the country. Through this shared effort, we aim to expand access to timely assistance and ensure horses receive appropriate care during periods of crisis.
About the Horse Rescue Fund
Established in 2023, the Horse Rescue Fund provides one-time financial assistance to help protect horses at risk. Support is available both in large-scale emergencies and in individual situations where unexpected hardship threatens an equine’s well-being.
Assistance may include:
- Emergency feed and essential supplies
- Temporary shelter
- Veterinary care
- Transportation support
- Other resources needed to ensure horses remain safe and properly cared for
This funding helps owners, rescues, and sanctuaries stabilize challenging situations and prevent horses from being placed at further risk.
HWAC’s Role in Supporting This Work
HWAC Board members and key contacts work alongside the Horse Rescue Fund to assist those in need, support fundraising efforts, and connect the efforts with industry, government, and the veterinary community. Our priority is to help ensure support is nationally coordinated, effective, and delivered when and where it is needed most.
